Guanajuato city assistance--driver or tours or agency

We are in Guanajuato right now and are finding it one of the most difficult places we've visited (and we've visited many places in many countries). There seem to be no small entrepreneurs here who want to provide transportation services or small tours or things like horseback riding expeditions. We can't even find any agencies. We don't need super service and a lot of hand holding, but we'd like to find an agency or a person who can help us with day trips outside of the city etc.

Does anyone know of anyone or any agency? The only thing we've discoverd so far is the pretty unhelpful tourist booths in Centro that have 3 or 4 canned tours in Spanish.

Thanks.

A quick search there turned up the name of a driver. Thanks for the tip.

What? Just talk to a couple of taxi drivers tell them what you are looking for, negotiate an hourly rate and you are good to go. They should be able to come up with other types of tours as well. Likewise most hotels should be able to help you. Yours was not my experience in Gunajuato or anywhere else in Mexico.
