4 days enough in Buenos Aires?
 

Hi!
I have the opportunity to travel to Buenos Aires for 4 full days. I'm flying from NYC and the flight is approximately $1,000. I am very interested in traveling to BA and can only do it for that short of a time period. Is it worth the flight time and the expense for such a short period of time? And will I get to experience a good amount of the city in only 4 days?

That is an expensive 4 days if you count hotel price also which is not that cheap here.

While I think it is wonderful here in Buenos Aires, I also think that it would be a shame to have such a short time here.
You can do it though..see some highlights, eat good food, take a city tour and wander, shop and eat and drink.

So if it looks affordable to you, do it :)

I think you can see BA, at least the tourist version at within three days. If you feel this will be the only chance you will have in your life, then do it.

go 4 it;, u'll probably b enchanted as we were and come back 4 more. take a sleeping pill or whatever so u sleep on the plane and have a full 4 days. i'm not sure why scarlett says hotels r not cheap. they certainly were both absolutely and relatively esp to nyc in january. fine dining is quite reasonable and u'll really like those 12-15 peso ( US $ 3-4 ) taxi rides all the way across town. and the people r lovely which doesn't cost anything!!

It's a long way to go for 4 days, but BA is definitely worth a visit and you should be able to get enough of a taste of it that you'll want to return as AndrewDavid indicates. And I don't think we ever paid more for a cab than 10 pesos. And that was with a tip included. Ideally your visit will be over a weekend so you can experience the San Telmo antiques fair (more than just antiques) and the Recoleta craft fair. You can probably find some decent priced hotels also if you check carefully.

I would recomend a place in the middle of the city if your staying for 3 or 4 days. Maybe in Recoleta. Try Art Suites, it worked for me.

I would go. Because you're flying overnight, if you can sleep on the plane, you really do get four full days there. You can always come back some other time for longer.

Even if you don't sleep on the plane, you can make it four full days. I never sleep on planes. We got to the hotel at about 11am, took a shower and headed out to Calle Florida for lunch and to begin to get our bearings.

And with that in mind, I will put in a plug for staying in that area rather than Recoleta. I know that many people prefer Recoleta, but for a first time to the city I thought staying where we did (about 3 blocks from Calle Florida between Plaza San Martin and Plaza de Mayo) was ideal. We could walk to almost everything in that area and it was pretty much equidistant to take cabs to Recoleta and San Telmo. We stayed at the Amerian Buenos Aires Park Hotel and it was quite comfortable. The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was plentiful and good. We always found a cab within about a minute (or less) of leaving the hotel.
