25th anniversary Trip

My husband and I are celebrating our 50th birthdays and 25th wedding anniversary in April. We are looking for a 5 day trip. We are not all inclusive types. We do like nature, interesting food ,history and beautiful scenery We are struggling to find someplace special. We went to Italy a few years back and fell in love, so we are comparing everything to that! We are thinking about St Lucia or maybe Costa Rica ( we were there before with our kids ) and are coming from the east coast. Any ideas are appreciated!

By the way, forgot to add that budget is around 4,000 and we are open to renting a house or hotels
Thanks so much!

I'd go to Guatemala - Antigua (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Lake Atitlán (a gorgeous lake ringed with volcanos and traditional Maya towns and villages). If you want to sub one of those out or add more time, Tikal in the north is a world class Maya site in the jungle. My photos with blog links are below. Happy trails!

We like the Arenal area of Costa Rica - it's lush and green with a volcano, no current lava flow. Nice hiking at the Hanging Bridges, and a beautiful waterfall hike you can do. Lots of great adventure activities like ziplining and rafting. You can do the Cano Negro tour to see wildlife and the Penas Blancas safari float. There are beautiful hot springs you can enjoy like Tabacon and Eco Termales. Lots of nice accommodations in a variety of prices. We've stayed at the Lost Iguana, Nayara, and The Springs Resort and Spa. Also like the Arenal Observatory Lodge, but it's a little more rustic.

If you prefer the beach, the Manuel Antonio area is popular. We like Tulemar Bungalows there.
