Thank you for the advice leslieh. We had decided against the Moon Palace because of the location (all of the reasons that you said!), and have decided to try Aventura Spa Palace. They are offering daily shuttle to PDC and Cancun, so we will get a chance to see both and they are also including several tours so we should have a chance to get a good look around to know where to stay for return trips! I think Al and tours are the best way for us to go for our first visit to the area.

Hi Lynne, It appears you've collected lots of good tips from these posters. I go to the Yucatan every year in Feb. and I'm not going to bore you with war stories. But, here are a few things to think about. It's probably a good idea to go AI as a first-timer. I did AIs a few times myself. Everything is handled by the tour company and hotel staff, which of course makes your trip well planned. But, like me, you'll see the great little hotels, abundant restaurants, and bars/clubs in PDC and never do AI again. Then, after a few more trips, you'll want to explore south to Tulum and stay in a rustic cabana right on the beachfront, listen to the water and watch a million stars by candlelight. The four of us just bought our air tickets for Feb.'03 and we'll be in Tulum and PDC. Have a great time in Mexico.

Hi Lynne - We stayed at the Moon last November and loved it! First time to Cancun...we appreciated the seclusion of the resort, the jacuzzi, the tours, the pools and the beach for kayaking & sailing...the waves aren't as rough as in town. We are going to Aventura Spa this November - booked through a timeshare owner and can't wait! I've read a lot of reviews...some not so good...but read the same type of reviews before we went to the Moon...never could figure out what people were complaining about! We chose the ASP this year because of the adults only & location - farther south and close to Playa & ferry to Cozumel - also Xpu-Ha Palace is 5 minutes down the road and has a great beach - we spent 1/2 day there last year and want to go snorkling there! I've read that the Tulum/Akumul trip is great snorkling. We plan to kick back and relax and enjoy our trip! Hope you have a great one!

The post about the Moon Palace from Lisa is a bit incorrect. We stayed their for our honeymoon in November 2000 and the Sun Palace is not next to the Moon. It is in Cancun. The Moon Palace is divided into 2 connected properties though, Nizuc & the original Moon. They spoil you at the Palace resorts. We are actually going back this Nov and decided to stay at Aventura Spa Palace. From what I hear, it sounds very secluded and we absolutely love the food and enviornment at the Palace resorts. We have had friends who stayed their last month and loved it. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the advice Keri, Sue & Bill. I have gotten some wonderful tips from the posters on this board, and I am looking forward to our trip in February! I'm sure that we will wind up just like you said, Bill, and be planning return trips year after year because the area sounds absolutely wonderful. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted on our stay at Aventura Spa Palace when we return!
