1st time visitor

I have neve been to South America & have recently retired. I have lots of time...when is the best time to visit, weather wise? I am a 50+ single female. Don't look or act my age...where should I stay that I will be comfortable being alone? Budget open.

Joan, I've only been to Venezuela (and that was several years ago), but I would think that the best time to visit would depend on where you want to go in South America. It's quite huge - I think the weather in the south will be very different from the weather in the north. In the southern hemisphere, the seasons will be the reverse of northern hemisphere. I think that there even may be skiing in parts of south America!

Hi Joan,

Last winter(their summer) I spent 2+ months in Chile. First time in South America. LOVED IT. No problem travelling there alone...the friendliest people on the whole planet. Previous poster is so right about the variety of climates you can expect in S. America. I'd be happy to give you more details.

Joan, you should visit Brazil. The best of it is that anytime you come you find nice weather. You should visit Rio and Salvador - the best cities in my opinion.

Also I suggest to visit Chile. The best time to visit will depend on what zone you are interested to visit, remember that Chile is the largest country of the world, then we have a lot of climates and landscapes.
You can visit the desert at the north, easter island, valparaiso, santiago, vineyards and ski resorts at the central zone, lakes district, chiloe archipelago, fjords zone, austral way, torres del paine park and antarctica at the south. Many of these destinations are considered as top destinations in the world(musts)
For specific information do not hesitate to contact me.
