10 day trip to Argentina in late March

Hello everyone!

I am going with a friend in late March and we're trying to solidify our plans. Ideally we would like to go to BA, Mendoza OR Mar del Plata and Iguazu falls.

Questions, and sorry in advance for so many but any help/advice on any of the below would be appreciated!

1- Is this too many places for 10 days?

2- what do you think the breakdown of days should be?

3 - any recommended hotels in BA that is in good location and fairly priced? Somewhere btw 150 - to 200. someone mentioned NH jousten in el centro - anyone heard of?

4 - If you had to choose would you go to Mendoza or Mar del plata? Mendoza seems amazing but not sure if it's more for couples/romantic type of place? I'm going with a girlfriend and we are hoping for somewhere that has things to do during the day (not only wine tasting), as well as some nightlife and also fairly easy to maneuver meaning not too spread out... not sure which one fits the bill better.

5 - What is the best way to book flights between our 3 locations? through travel agent or directly with airline, assuming aerlineas?

Thanks so much for all the help, been wanting to go to Argentina for years and now that it's finally here want to make sure I make it the best trip possible - although obvious i will need to go more than once!

Thanks again

Jenny

consider staying in Palermo Soho, which has great shopping, nightlife and charm. There are numerous boutique hotels which should fit your price range. We have stayed at both Mine and Home Hotels and liked them both; slight preference for Home, but the location of Mine is far better as you are right in the thick of things and don't have to cross the railroad tracks as you do at Home.

Jenny,

First you have to determine what's important to you and how much traveling you want to do, and how much it costs.

I would suggest getting an open jaw ticket, such as the one I have. I'm arriving in BsAS and leaving out of Mendoza. Really not much cost difference than a round trip ticket

I'm sure all the usual suspects will chime in for their specific areas of interest; which is absolutely fine with me.

I'll be going to Mendoza towards the end of March. If you do your research, you'll find there is more to do than be romantic. Mendoza now even has a casino.

I suggest that you go through the past threads. You could go back 150-200 threads and still find fairly recent threads on opinions where to go.

However, you do not have much time to put this together.

We liked the Bobo Hotel in Palermo and it was in your price range. Good location, nice people. Preferred Palermo to Recoleta (we stayed in both).

You should definitely go to Iguazu in my opinion. We stayed two nights, but I suppose you could do it in just one if you arrive early enough on the first day. You could do the Devils Throat on the day of arrival, and then walk the circuits first thing the next day. Doubt you'd have time for a boat ride if you tried to squeeze it all into an overnight.

Didn't go to Mendoza or Mar de Plata, so I cannot opine on them.

I think you'll be tight due to travel logistics with three places in ten days, but I am one of the rare people who think three days in Buenos Aires is enough.

If you are arriving on LAN or one of LAN's OneWorld partners, there is something called a South American pass that actually discounts flights. I think the minimum is 4 segments to be eligible for this plan. You can see it on the LAN website.

You might also think of renting an apartment for a few days in BsAs. Numerous companies offer that option. Pricing is usually pretty good.

Thank you everyone so much for you help - this will be incredibly helpful towards us making the most of our time there.
I'll definitely check out prior posts - although i am scared it will make us want to do even more things as opposed to narrowing it down!
A contact I had did mention something about obtaining a visa for going to the falls, but is that only if we go to the brazil side?
thanks again everyone - so glad i found this network, it's a wonderful resource.

10 days is sufficient time to take in two areas: BA and Iguazu would be my top choices. Mar del Plata...March is a bit past the prime beach weather....Mendoza is nice but not as spectacular as wine country in California, for example.

Iguazu is a world class destination.Stunning falls without equal in the United States. You do not need a visa unless you enter Brazil. The border guards are often lax, so you may or may not be required to produce a visa if you go the Brazil side.

NH Jousten is on a busy downtown street...the newer NH Lancaster offers better rooms and I like the location more...although it too is downtown...

I agree that looking at hotels such as the Mine or Miravida Soho in Palermo would be a better setting for a few days.
