helping people find their posts

So now, instead of telling people to click on their screen name at the upper right, we need to tell them to click on the silly circle with an icon that I assume is supposed to look a bit like a person? I must admit that I don't see how that improves anything.... JMO

That's silly. I searched and searched for this icon that is almost blanked out.

Thanks. It's not very visible, but at least I knew what to look for.

If you have a profile photo, the circle has that photo. Still, I see the photo every time I look at my profile, which is a lot, I don't need to see it again. It was bad enough when they did away with one click access to your profile, this is just a waste of IT resources.

Yep - if we have a choice between seeing our photo and our name displaying . . . The screen name makes more sense.

And for those of us who don't have a profile on our profile page, or who are trying to help newbies find their posts, what a PITA!

Your name shows? Mine doesn't . . . or are you talking about some other 'problem'?

It's the ultimate use of a visual for the illiterates, as if participants on this forum can't even read a name. It's stupid, but one can click on one's own name in a post to get to the same place, and so can another reader.

"but one can click on one's own name in a post to get to the same place"

BUT . . . first one would have to go to a thread where they participated. For people who don't post a lot the only way to find such a thread would be by . . . yes, clicking on their profile.

I was referring to the big icon with a head in top right hand corner. (No picture of me.)If I click on it, my name and profile shows. It wasn't 't there before.

yes, clicking on their profile.

And it shouldn't take more than one bumbling try to get used to the icon.

I think if you don't stay logged in you see the icon. If you are already logged in you should see the profile photo. At least in Firefox that's what I see.

Not everyone has a profile photo. Most new posters do not have a profile photo.

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to update the community on the Nav bar username/icon issue.

So after some investigating, the change to the nav bar was implemented by our tech team. Unfortunately, they didn't deem it necessary to inform us admins of this change before pushing it onto the live site.

That shouldn't have happened and we apologize for that!

Usually when a redesign is being considered they first consult with community(us), then they do a beta test on a staging server so we can QA and see what the response is. Only after everyone gives the OK do they implement it on the live site.

Rest assured we are looking into implementing a way to bring back some of the features of the old nav bar back.

We'll keep you updated!

@ ibrshao: If you are part of the Fodor's team -- and I trust that you are, even though your profile gives no reason to think so -- then I thank you very much for this response!
