Zweibrucken - Attractions, etc.
My boyfriend is going on a week-long business trip to Zweibrucken (Germany) in June. He's considering to get there a couple of days early and explore the surrounding areas. Do you know of any cool attractions (sites, events, historical facts) that he can check out around that area? He has been looking around on the internet, but he hasnt gotten a lot of info. Thanks ;-)

Zweibrücken is not exactly a very exciting town except that there is a huge factory outlet center. But it has a splendid hotel with three restaurants, including a Michelin-starred gourmet restaurant, the Orangerie. You must definitly go there for dinner!
Otherwise you need a car to explore the area. Trier is the number one attraction which is about an hour away, Völklinger Hütte is spectacular for industrial history, in southern and eastern direction there is landscape. Trifels is an interesting castle where Richard the Lionheart was kept as a prisoner. Also Teufelstisch, Altdahn and Fleckenstein. You may drive into France, maybe visit Simserhof near Bitche to see somewhat of military history. Look at the map: www.viamichelin.com and see the attractions printed in blue. |
Thanks for the recommendation of the restaurant. He and I are FOODIES, he would definitely appreciate the recommendation.

I made a mistake. The name of the hotel is Fasanerie.
http://www.landschloss-fasanerie.de/...h/english.html They have 3 restaurants: 1) The gourmet restaurant is named Tschifflik. The five variations of foie gras are divine. 2) The middle-class mediterranean restaurant is named Orangerie. It is still very good. 3) The rustic restaurant is named Landhaus (I have not eaten there). |
Thanks again traveller. I save all of the notes. We realized that this place isn't too exciting, but nice restaurants would make the week a little bit more bearable ;-)
