Where is the train station to catch the day train to Venice from Zurich ?

All the day trains make many stops. Is there a departure with the least stops and you do not need to make train changes ?

Thanks to all for the great advice.

I work for a US based airline and fly standby so the available options to fly usually change at the last minute. So far flying into Zurich is the best option. I was most concerned about purchasing tickets in advance in case my flight fills up and I wind up having to fly to Geneva (another viable option) on my way to Venice. Based on all the input, I will wait to arrive in Zurich to purchase tickets which I hope will be two days prior to leaving for Venice. I will let you all know how it goes...

Thanks again,
Rob

okoski2002, the station you want to go from Zurich to Venice is the main train station, called the Hautbahnhof. On the Swiss Rail website, this is written as Zurich HB. This is on Bahnhofstrasse. If you tell me where you are going to be staying in Zurich, I can give you suggestions on the best way to get there.

According to the current rail.ch schedule, there is ONE train that will get you from Zurich HB to Venice during the day WITHOUT having to change trains. It leaves at 9:09 am and arrives at 5 pm. This is the EC 173 Cisalpino train, a very fun super-fast sleek train. I would take this if you can. (But please check the schedule closer to your dates next year, as the departure times may change slightly.) Go to rail.ch

The only other way to go without changing trains is to take a night train, and having seen your other posts I know you may have ruled this out. I would agree with this, I really am not a fan, they are not that comfortable (esp this route where it is hard to find first class sleeping cars), and you don't get that much sleep.

In any event the day train will give you some really good scenery. If you can't take the 9:09, changing trains is very easy IMO, most of the trains from Zurich only require one change, give you enough time to make the change, and in most cases the tracks you need to change to will be next door or within a short walk of each other.

Even if you were to do this from Interlaken (I read your other posts), making these changes would not be bad at all, IMO. In fact there is a train leaving Interlaken at 8:56 am that, via a connection in Spiez and another in Brig to the Cisalpino 47, would get you into Venice by 3:30 pm, which is 1.5 hours earlier than the Zurich train. Worth considering if you are only going back to Zurich thinking you can "avoid" a long train ride from Interlaken.

Do yourself a favor and when you make a reservation or buy your tickets, also make a reservation in the dining car, as they can fill up. This is a very pleasant way to have a meal and watch the countryside go by.

Thank you Cicerone for the advice here as well as on my other post. As the trip shapes up I will be sure to look at the non-stop train from Zurich to Venice.

And whether we return from Zurich or Geneva may be out of our hands depending on what Delta has available on their frequent flyer routes. We will ask for Zurich just to keep things simple.

Thanks- I will have more questions I am sure.
