Zurich to Milan
We are scheduled to fly to Zurich this September, and then go to Italy (Salo on Lake Garda), but will need to go via Milan, I Think. We will have a Swiss Travel Pass. My question is will the Swiss Pass get us to Milan, or must we buy a ticket at the border? Or would it be easier to fly to Milan then train/bus to Salo? Any advice would be appreciated.

You should be able to buy the segment from the Swiss border to Milan at the station IN Switzerland.

that's a very scenic train ride, too. I took the train from Zurich to Como last year and enjoyed it.

Trains to Desenzano del Garda and a bus. Tickets here all the way: http://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html |
That's Zurich to Desenzano with a change at Milano Centrale. If you plan on staying in Milan, you would buy the Milano/Desenzano tickets on the Trenitalia web site.

First up, see what it costs from Zurich to Milan by train at www.trenitalia.com
Fares work like air fares, from €19. They are unrelated to distance. If Zurich-Milan is €19 on the train you want, there's no point in using an expensive Swiss Pass plus a €19 ticket from the border, as the pass saves nothing. |
