Zurich to Garmisch help!!!!***
Hi all
For my husbands R&R we will be headed DFW to Garmisch. Challenge is I have two small kids I will be traveling with. I want the most efficient way to get to the Edelweiss resort and lodge in Garmisch. I can only fly American airlines as I am an employee. We service Frankfurt and Zurich. Suggestions? Trains connect and give little time, afraid 5 hours on a train from FRA might drive me and the kids crazy. Inter air transportation on Lufthansa from FRA to MUC another very expensive option, so there I am! Drive time if I rent a car, suggestions? |
With 2 kids and luggage I would definitely do a car - much easier than dealing with all that on public transit. And it will be handy in Garmisch as well.
Zurich is closer - only about 3.5 hours, while Frankfurt is about 5 hours. Check out mappy.com for details. (I have always found their times to be longer than it actually takes us.) |
Hello~
Thanks so much NY. I saw 3.5 hrs ZURH to GARM, but read somewhere people had to take ferrys, etc. My goal is to just get there and relax not into sightseeing along the way this trip).Have any idea how far from Innsbruck to Garmisch? found a flight $165 each. |
There are frequent direct train connections from Innsbruck to Garmisch via Mittenwald. Takes about 1 hr 20 min. The fare for you is €12,20; your children travel for free.

HiYou said that you are an American airline employee, so I wanted to ask about an ID 95 or 90. This is for employees who use airlines either in your alliance or offer it to AA employees. We flew to Dusseldorf and then picked up a flight to Munich a couple of weeks ago. Enjoy your trip, The Garmisch-Partenkirchen area is great, we spent four nights there.

yes, there are ZED fares and space avail stuff, but nothing confirmed I know of on other carriers...
Plus, if i fly, still have to take car or train from MUC to Garmisch...ahhhh, nothing is easy yet we will make it. Think will just fly DFw to FRA, then drive from FRA with hubby and kids to Garmisch, hope I can find some things to do there along the way~ |
Hi
If you're going to drive, pick up a good map of Germany, before you go. We use autoeurope to rent a car. They offer an airline employee discount, but you have to ask for it when you phone. When you get closer to Munich stop off at Augsburg, it's a really nice small city and is not far from Garmisch-Partenkirchen. We preferred to stay in Partenkirchen, nice old center with some good restaurants. Has a good pizza place too, when the kids want something different. Restaurant Renzo. |
