First of all, the "Ermitage" is definitely a tie and jacket place.
If you stay in Zurich just for a very short stay, there are enough cozy, romantic places around. No need to go out of town, especially not with bad weather.

Here are some of my favourites:

"Bierhalle Kropf", yes, Just off Paradeplatz.
Maybe not *very* romantic, but very typical and very good food, sometimes a bit loud
"Cantinetta Antinori Augustiner", best Italian cuisine. 1st floor more intimate
"Bindella", In Gassen 6, very good venetian-style food
"Kronenhalle" at Bellevue. Good food in company with authentic paintings of Picasso, Miro, Chagall. A Zurich Institution
"Barometer", Widdergasse 5. Small French intimate bistro
"L'Hexagone", Kuttelgasse 15. Hightly inventive Mediterranen-style bistro food. Astonishgly well-priced, too
"Blaue Ente", Seefeldstrasse 223. One of my favourite. A bit out of the center though
"Kaiser's Reblaube", Glockengasse. Where Goethe one took logings, a restaurant with perfect service and food. Superbe wine selction.
"Carlton", Bahnhofstrasse 41. Following gentle renovation this art deco restaurant features elegance and a relaxed atmosphere. Creatkive cooking. Nice bar as well.
"Zunfthaus zur Zimmerleuten", Limmatquai 40. A very nice guidhall restaurant, historic place, view over the River Limmat
"Münsterhof", Münsterhof 6. Swiss cuisine on a fair price level (nice minced veal Zurich style). 1st floor more intimate. Historic atmosphere, wall paintings from 1370.
"Le Dézaley", Römergasse 5-9. Cheese specialties, old house, pleasant open air court
"Opus", Pfalzgasse 1, old town, classic music event
"Ribo", Nüschelerstrasse 1. Superbe Spanish restaurant
"Barrique", Marktgasse 17. Very cozy winebar where you can get meals but also just some cheese to go with your glass of wine
"Savoy Bar", Paradeplatz. Very laidback place where locals and guests meet. Nice for a glass of wine and a little rest. Very good snacks and light dishes.
"Blue", Zurich's latest trend venue is situated in what used to be a laundry; loft and with grand views. Excellent dining.
"Sixty-One", Mythenquai 61, overlooking the lake. Italian food. Openair disco in the summer.
"Vis-à-Vis", Bärengasse 16. Nice French-style bistrot. Very casual. Sometimes a bit crowded in the evenings.

I think I should go back to work now. If you need further info, come back. Most places will require advanced booking. Ask you hotel concierge.
