Zurich Hotel Suggestions?
 

My wife and I will be in Zurich in late June of this year and are wondering if any of you have suggestions for a hotel in the city center area. Normally we prefer to spend not more than a $100 per night, but that may not be reasonable in Salzburg. Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated.<BR> Thanks in advance, Jim

My husband and I were in Zurich for New Year's and we stayed at the Hotel Adler. We really liked it. The room was smallish but spotless, with a beautiful painting of a local scene right on the wall. The restaurant downstairs was really great also - we can recommend the raclette and the fondue. It is in the Niederdorf section, and we were able to walk everywhere we needed to. www.hotel-adler.ch

Jim -<BR>Zurich tends to be expensive. You might be able to find something acceptable for less than $100, but it will be a challenge to get anythign more than very, very basic at that price.<BR>We stayed at the Hotel Walhalla near the central train station, found it to be clean, comfortable, moderately priced and well located.

Jim: Have a look at the Hotel Scheuble***. I'm amazed that I can actually contribute something to a Zurich question! A couple of years ago, we had to use the tourist office to find a last-minute hotel, because our reservation in Bulach had evaporated, and the TO found a room for us at the Walhalla. Their breakfast was great, but our room was in the annex, a building across the side street from the hotel -- the rooms were small and dark and claustrophopic. So if you decide on the Walhalla, be sure that your room is in the main part of the hotel. J.

jw: I used to recommend the Walhalla, but now I tend towards the Scheuble which is on a more quiet street and is very nicely refurbished (modern Italian style). <BR>PS: I think the rooms in the annex at the Walhalla are updated now as well.<BR>Jim, you would have to ask, if you decide to stay there.

Just returned from a brief visit to Zurich, and loved it! We were booked by a travel agent to the Marriott-not my idea of foreign fun, but given that it was just the last two nights of a trip, we stayed there. It it typical Marriott, but only $89 per night incl breakfast (full buffet) and only a short walk from the train station and shopping. The other hotels people have mentioned probably have more charm, but if you need internet access, and inexpensive, it's clean, efficient, etc. Next time we're in Zurich we'll try for something more Swiss, but probably more expensive. My husband and I will also be in Zurich starting June 21 and staying at the Movenpick Hotel at the Airport --leaving for a tour of the Alpine areas and Northern Italy the following day. If you just need a base hotel before you travel to other places this may be good. Hotel has 4 restaurants. Good luck.

Kathy<BR>If you got the Marriott in Zurich for $89 you indeed got a bargain. You are lucky. And you are correct that is has a good location. Sometimes Marriotts can be surprisingly inexpensive. Two years ago we got rooms in the Munich Marriott for $90 (special internet rate) and what a deal. So it pays to check.<BR><BR>The hotel I have always used in Zurich is the Hotel Central, just across river from main train station. Very nice **** hotel, but also can be pricey. Worth checking with though may get a deal.
