Zurich for 24 hours
 

Flying into Zurich for one day then taking train to Milan for a wedding, What recs do you have for the city - hotels, museum, shopping etc. Going late August.

If I had 24 hours in Switzerland I'd personally take the direct train part way to Milan and explore somewhere much better than Zurich. A lot of the direct trains from Zurich to Milan stop in Bellinzona & Lugano. Zurich is a modern banking city and not very telling of what Switzerland has to offer.

Visit Bahnofstrasse in Zurich for shopping! There are really many nice shops there. Niederdorf is also worth a visit. The museums depend on what you like. Here is an overview: https://www.kulturzueri.ch/en/exhibitions/

I fully second kho: the 3 medieval castles of Bellinzona, Lake Maggioere and Lake Lugano are really beautiful. So is the cog wheel railway from Lake Lugano to Monte Generoso, a mounain with panoramic views to some 5 lakes and the Alps (froim Mont Blanc up to Bernina)..
