zurich and germany late May early June

We are looking to take a two week trip in 2014 beginning in Zurich and then travelling up through Germany (haven't set the German itinerary yet, but will likely be the usual recommended cities). Most of the travel advice I have seen tends to indicate June and July are the best times during the summer to be able to enjoy outdoor cafe's etc... While I understand the weather is variable, I was wondering if starting things out in Late May (May 25th) in Zurich and then travelling up through Germany would be pushing things as far as the weather goes. I am able to find some premium award seats now, but can wait a bit longer if it will make a substantial difference with the weather and quality of the trip. Any advice appreciated.

I've been in Zurich in late APRIL as well as in October and both were fine times with great weather.

Have you considered looking at the almanac sections on wunderground.com for those cities to get accurate (vs. heresay) historical weather data?

I agree that weather should not be an issue. We, too, have dined outside in April, no problem. But we have also seen snow at that time, too. May should be fine.

You know they had nothing but rain there in late May and early June this year, followed by flooding in Southern Germany. Maybe that means the odds are good for better weather next year? I hope so as we already have our tickets for that same time ( but haven't decided where we will go yet; Germany is one option but Turkey just came up as a possibility too).

Friends of ours who went iinApril had nice weather so apparently that is not a good predictor for May.
