Zurich Accomodations and Airport

I am flying out of Zurich early to return home in a few weeks -- like a 7 AM flight. If you have had a similar experience, fill me in on these particulars:
(1) How easy/hard is it to find the airport and drop off a rental car and get to the terminal?.
(2) Are there any budget accomodations in the vicinity of the airport that you would recommend? (3) Is there any other helpful advice you think I might need?

hi - we've flown in/out of Zurich a couple times and have stayed at the Hotel Welcome Inn, in Kloten, next to airport. Reasonably priced. ph # is 0l-8l4-07-27, fax 0l-8l3-56-l6. We also turned in rental cars there too, easy to do. Remember that if you're leaving the country, you need to be at the airport a couple hours ahead of the flight time. and with a 7am departure, that makes for a real early morning. You might consider turning the car in the day before, then just use a taxi to get to the airport, one less worry for you, wouldn't cost much (probably less than the day's rental.) Have a good trip.

Thanks for the reply to my inquiry. I have a reservation at the Welcome Inn. My flight is early, and Northwest Airlines / KLM tells me that
their ticket counter does not open until 6AM.
The hotel tells me that the shuttle bus leaves at 6AM. Did you have any experience with using the
hotel's shuttle bus??

We are considering dropping the car the night before because the Avis office does not open early enough for us, given the 7 AM departure.

no we never used the shuttle. Usually we'd have a later flight and at least once did take a taxi just to avoid worrying about the car in the morning. Wehad the front desk order it the night before. I think that's your best bet.

Again, thanks for the info. A casual friend of mine, not one I know all that well, has also flown from Zurich. After your message, I, by chance, learned that he also used a taxi. I asked him for
more details. His message is the same as yours.
Take the taxi because you cannot afford to be late and you don't want to have to fuss with the car when
time is critical.

Just one comment though: as there is an excellent and frequent "door to door" train connection from Zurich downtown to the airport, what's the point staying at a motel close to the airport - unless you are driving a car (which you will not be)...
