Zum Turken / Berchtesgaden
We are planning an excursion to Berchtesgaden in September 08 and being a WWII history buff would like very much to visit the Hitler Berghof / Teahaus area.
I need to get from Berchtesgaden to the Zum Turken hotel. What would be the best way to do this as we will not have a car and I don't know of any buses that make the run from Berchtesgaden to the Zum Turken? |
In the interest of saving time and getting door-to-door service, I would simply take a taxi from the train station area up to zum Turken. It's not actually that far, roughly 2 miles. If there is a bus that runs up from Berchtesgaden it would surely not drop you off at the Turken, because it's on a short bypass of the main street and you would have a few minute walk to get there from the Hintereck parking area.

This past weekend, we were in Berchtesgaden. We did have a car and drove the short distance to Obersalzburg. Since no private vehicles are allowed on the road, we purchased tickets for the bus. We had only a short wait before boarding the bus for the 20 minute drive to the Eagle's Nest. There are two English tours offered (10:50 and 11:30) for 5 euros.
There is a public bus that goes to the Obersalzburg bus terminal from Berchtesgaden. Taxis are also available. |
Dorothy - Did you do the 5 euro tour, and if so, was it informative? Were those the only two english tours for the whole day? Thank you!!

We did the 5 euro tour. Our group was small; there were eight of us plus the guide. There are only two English tours offered and they were both before noon. The tour lasts thirty minutes and leaves from the bus drop off area.
The tours are conducted by David Harper, a noted historian. His daughter, Tara, conducted our tour. She was very informative. I found a website for their tour company. It is www.eagles-nest-tours.com. They also conduct full-day tours that begin in Berchtesgaden. We just lucked into the tour. We arrived at Obersalzburg at around 9:45 AM and purchased tickets for the next shuttle bus; our bus left at 10:10. While waiting for the bus, we saw the sign that provided information about the tours in English. |
