Zugspitze? Alpspitz? Hiking?
When staying in GP I had thought we would go up the Zugspitze if the weather is good, Then I read it's really expensive going up from Germany, and that going up from Austria is cheaper. And what about Alpspitz?
We would love to do something like you can do in Switzerland where you go up on a train, gondola, or cable car and then have a walk/hike in the area then go back down, is this possible? I'm going in circles trying to figure this out, need HELP! |

Thanks mokka4, map is cool, you can highlight certain hikes, but I can't find descriptions of the hikes. Have you hiked around Zugspitze, Alpspitz?

Sorry, I have not hiked this area...bet you'll get some responses as the day wears on..
There is a nice price list table (click at the top) for help in choosing how to ascend. |

Use that first link above. Click on "Hiking Panorama". You can easily hike from Kreuzeck to Osterfelderkopf. Very nice, longer and much quieter is the hike from top of Wank down to Partenkirchen.
Another favourite of mine was Partnach gorge, a short hike (half day) from Eckbauer lift http://www.eckbauerbahn.de/ There are several other options from Eckbauer top, including Schloss Elmau (with bus back) or the tiny village Wamberg. |
I'm thinking Alpspitz and Wank. Will we really miss not going to the top of Zugspitz?
We did hike through some Gorge when we were in the area years ago, but I remember marbles, so I'm thinking it was Almbach Gorge outside Berchtesgaden? |
