Zug, Switzeland

Just visited Zug and thought it was just lovely, with its promenade and view of the mountains. Has anyone been there and liked it just as much? Any other favorite towns or towns to visit in that area of Switzerland?

Well, Princess, you've made my day. I've often thought that Zug was in a perfect central location and my views of its lake from the train (Lugano/Zurich) were very nice. I prefer to stay in very small towns; therefore, I've got Walchwil on my list (If you've got a map, you'll see it).

From Zugersee, there must be hundreds of interesting villages and cities for daytrips -- the lakes of Zurich and Lucerne each are marvelous destinations. And there are lesser-known places as well-- like Hallwilersee and Einsiedeln.

I, for one, would love to read more of your impressions of Zug. J.

Good morning, jmw Einsiedeln, tho
very small but does have the Abbey,
visited there once years back and was
very impressed with the abbey and the
town and more pilgrims than tourists....
Good little hotels and ristorantes, with
a single taxi cab in the whole town...

I also liked Zug. Quite expensive, though. I second the recommendations of Einsiedeln.

Just want to add some picturesque towns to the list:
Rapperswil
Bremgarten
Lenzburg
Zofingen
Baden (old town)
Regensberg (north of Zurich)
Sempach

In general I'd say that you find more and more beautiful small towns toward Bern and Western Switzerland.

My favorite of all spots in Switzerland is the village of Wengen, perched half-way up the mountain, accessible by train only.
