Zouz or Silvaplana?
If you had four days to spend in a little village in the Engadine, would you stay in Silvaplana, or Zous? Any take4rs?

I would stay in Silvaplana. IMO there's more interesting scenery with the lakes. Zuoz is very nice and interesting but seems a bit removed from the other towns in the area (although you can easily get around by train and bus).

Hi Corgwyn,
I really enjoyed my week-long stay in Zuoz in June 2003, but we used the town mainly as a base, leaving every day to explore the valley. The town itself is pretty sleepy: a few taverns and a few hotels, an interesting town square, and that's about it. I saw absolutely NO shops selling tourist trinkets; it's definitely not a thriving tourist spot! I saw Silvaplana from the train once as we whizzed by, and I remember thinking I'd have to go back for a few days -- it's right on a lake, and I'm extremely partial to lake views! I think it's a larger town than Zuoz, too. You may want to check out the Waldhaus Hotel in Sils (http://www.waldhaus-sils.ch/). One poster here who goes to the Engadin frequently says it's his favorite hotel, bar none. If you can spring for a five-star, this would be the place. Let me know if I can help further. s |
I really enjoyed Silvaplana when we stayed there a few years ago. It's just small enough to be walkable, and just big enough to have some pretty god restaurants. And it's a short drive to St. Moritz, which has everything. I also like the lake surrounded by mountains along the valley edges. Good luck.

I would say you can't go wrong with either because the frequent trains will take you wherever you want to go.

I agree with all the previous posters. Silvaplana is probably better for your stay. Btw, did you notice that I replied to your previous post, although it is listed with "0 responses" ?
Again, why don't you stay in Sils? It's the best! And that hotel Waldhaus ... I could go there right away ... |
