Zermatt Lodging

Howdy,
I am a single 30-Something guy looking to travel to Zermatt alone on a ski trip. I don't need a 4 or 5-Star hotel, just a quiet room with a good bed and somewhere to secure my ski equipment. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Paul

Hi Paul. I did not respond to your initial message because I have never stayed in a hotel in Zermatt, although I have been there. If you will consult the web site listed below, you will find a very good listing of 117 hotels in Zermatt. I would look at the hotels in the three star category and down. A Hotel Garni is like a hotel, but my understanding is that it has no restaurant. (I am not all that sure however because I never stayed in one.)

http://www.zermatt.ch/

You will find hotels in Zermatt to be fairly expensive this time of year. Although the hotels in Switzerland are never cheap, this is now the high winter season. If you change your mind and decide to go to Zinal, in Val d'Anniviers, I can recommend the Hotel du Trift. Small, friendly, and run by a professional snow boarder and his wife.
(And their two dogs. The old black dog was the official greeter. He wagged his tail in several languages. I do not know if he is still with us or not.)

Bob,
Thanks! I did find the website but the choices are overwhelming.
Has anyone out there stayed in Zermatt lately???

We were there last year & stayed @the Alpen Resort Hotel. Very nice & comfortable & they pick you up @ the train station in a golf cart. It is a Best Western & you can find it on their web site.

Paul,

Have stayed at the Hotel Butterfly in Zermatt. It's a 3 star, and probably one of the more reasonably priced ones in its category because it does not have a "head-on" view of the Matterhorn, It's about a 2 block walk from the train station. Convenient location, lovely room, and great food in the restaurant.

This time of year, you'll probably be required to take half-board.

As an earlier poster noted, Zermatt is pretty expensive any time of year --winter just makes an expensive situation worse.
