Zermatt Avalanche

Hi I saw on the news that there is much snow in Zermatt and an avalanche, and some persons were helicopterd out. Anyone know how bad this is? Sue

Anyone know if the Omnia Hotel is OK? Sue

There's no danger for the town itself. Everyone is safe. Just too much snow, and the (rail)road to Zermatt was closed (like for many other resorts in Valais, Northern Italy and France). It's getting better from today on - no new snow expected.

@ Ingo: Thanks for the update! Always good to hear that everyone is safe.

The risk of avalanches is high in most of the Alps right now.

They have closed railway line and roads as a protective measure, so Zermatt and some other villages are cut off from the rest of the world. But there is no danger for people and houses. Only that people cannot leave the place.
