zermatt and wengen
 

i will be in zermatt for 2 days and it looks like its going to rain. what is there to do if its raining? also same in wengen. Thanks for the help

I have been to both places,, both are lovely ,, if rain is light I would still go up to Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg .. you won't get the amazing views perhaps if its socked in, , but its still a lovely walk. Wear your rain jacket you must have packed!
Zermatt has a few more shops etc to poke into, and more restaurants,, so eating and drinking can occupy some time.. Theres also a cementary in Zermatt thats interesting to wander around in,, alot of climbers graves marked with ice axes and ropes etc..

I would still go up above and view the Matterhorn peak IF it is clear above; there is a live-cam in the Gornergrat railway waiting room. As to shopping in Zermatt, you may find some of the prices to be a bit high.

That's too bad about the weather. However, there is still plenty to do. I would also recommend going on your normal excursions if the rain is not bad (Breithorn Glacier in Zermatt; Männlichen hike to Kleine Scheidegg in Wengen).

You can also find information about things that are not specifically indoor activities, but would be fine in rain -- like a cheese making excursion or a guided tour of the city.

Zermatt has a very interesting Matterhorn Museum right smack in the center of town next to the large Catholic church. Several numbered vignettes correspond to your language's program and then there are a few short movies on mountain climbing. Well done. Will fill at least an hour to do it justice. Yes, the rockclimbing cemetery was interesting for a few minutes. Is the Zermatt Festival still going on? We lucked out and listened to free rehearsals of the Chamber Music Group of the Berlin Philharmonic, not opting for the evening performances. Zermatt did not provide us with enough options frankly. It reminded us too much of large American ski resorts, which when designed were probably copying Zermatt. Wengen and the villages of Murren, Grindenwald, Gimmelwald and perhaps some towns off Lks. Brienz or Thun might be best on days with poor visibility. Also, if your hotel does not offer indoor pool/spa facilities, there might be hotels that would offer you a 'day pass' for same, can't hurt to ask.
