Zermatt & Montreux during Easter...HELP!!

Hi,

We are seriously planning to travel to Switzerland for 4 adults & 2 kids (9 & 12 yrs.) by international flight to arrive Zurich Apr. 9-15. Intend to stay in Zermatt & Montreux. Would appreciate tips on the following....

1. Apr. 11, as Easter, would every shops and activities will be ALL closed? How about rail & tramp??

2. We will not be skiing, but would love to have some sledging runs. What sort of suitable clothing gear is recommended? Full gear? (from tropical country and we are not used to it if too cold, hehe) And where is the best to buy?

3. Would anyone would recommend 3-4 stars place to stay in Zermatt, that has balcony overseeing Matterhorn.

Also if possible some recommendation on the similar class lakeside hotel in Montreux.

4. Last one, sorry asking loads of question.... For 4 Adults + 2 Kids, what will be the best passes that we should buy.

Thanks a MILLION :-))

You must be looking at a 2004 calendar, as April 11 was Easter in 2004.

One property in Zermatt you might consider is the Hotel Butterfly, a 3* that is affiliated with Best Western (you can reserve it or get more info on the BW site). It has its own restaurant, a very friendly and helpful manager and staff, and rooms with balconies that give a view of the Matterhorn.

An excellent site for looking at all the hotels in Zermatt is

For budget hotels you can also look at www.rooms.ch

www.montreux.ch (most cities in Switzerland have a home page with address similar to this one).

Montreux is fairly compact & the lakeside quai not long, so if you want a 3-4 star lakefront hotel there are only a few to sort out. Helvetie is a reasonable priced one but on the main street, not the lake.

You might also consider Vevey, the next town along for a greater variety and few possibilities for somewhat less expensive hotels.

You won't need winter gear for April in Montreux.
