I'm planning a trip to Greece for the last week of October and the first week of November. We'll rent a car and drive around the Pelopenese. Should we include a trip to Zakynthos? And if we do would you recommend a day trip without the car or a couple days with? Will it be too cold to swim around the Blue Caves at the end of October? Many thanks!

Zakynthos is only a 1 hour ferry ride from Kilini, but I'm not sure it would be worth a day trip. If you do want to spend a couple of days there, a car would be an advantage, but most rental companies don't allow you to take the car on ferries. That's something you would have to check.

There are many beautiful seaside villages with an "island feel" in the Peloponnese. If you are travelling around the Peloponnese, also consider visiting a Saronic Gulf island, e.g. Spetses or Hydra. You should be able to get a ferry to either of those islands from Porto Heli, near Nafplio. You wouldn't need a car — indeed, Hydra is a car-free island.

Really appreciate your response Heimdall. Hertz allows their cars rented in Greece to be taken on ferries to Greek islands. But as our plans already include two nights on Hydra I think we will pass on Zakynthos. I hate spending time making connections and although I would like to see shipwreck cove and the Blue Caves I would also like to spend time in Andritsaina and Lousios Gorge. So much to see in the world, so little time. Thanks again.
