Zagreb to Plitvice Road Conditions in March
A friend and I are going on a guided tour this Thursday. For some reason, the tour does not include Plitvice National Park. So, on the day the tour will drive from Dubrovnik to Zagreb, my friend and I are going to fly from Dubrovnik to Zagreb and would like to go to Plitvice from there. The tours I'm finding leave Dubrovnik around 9 a.m. Our flight arrives in Zagreb at 7:30 a.m. I'm not sure we can make it in time to join the day tour. We could rent a car for the day, but I'm skeptical about terrain.
What are the road like from Zagreb to Plitvice? Are there a lot of hills and curves? Is there any chance is would require driving in snow? The date would be March 15th. Any alternatives to suggest? I don't want to miss Plitvice! Lisa |
The roads are generally good, major roads (check viamichelin.com or even google maps), but I don't think you can rule snow out. Maybe you could wait until the day before -- or even that day -- to see what the weather is like? If the weather is questionable, you could always spend the day in Zagreb....
Good luck! |
Is Plitvice National Park stunning this time of year? I don't want to drive the two hours to find out that it's disappointing. We have one day in Zagreb for a day trip and trying to decide whether to do Plitvice or Varazdin

I haven't been to the Plitvice Lakes at this time of year, but I've seen pictures and think that I would like it. Whether you would is another question entirely, and again, it depends on the weather. If the weather permits a visit, you will still see lots and lots of waterfalls of varying sizes, and lakes of water in various colors (because of unique microclimates in different parts of the lakes), etc.
