Zaanse Schans - will the area be open the end of December
 

My family will be in Amsterdam the 28-30th of December and would like to visit Zaanse Schans for their windmills. Does anyone know if any of the windmills or the shops be open the 29th of December??

I found a website but it was under construction.

If these windmills are closed do you know of any other windmills that will be open? We will be traveling by train.

Also interesting is the museum next to the zaanse schans.

Unfortunately, at that time of year the website definitely says that the windmills are only open on weekends; the question seems to be will the windmill(s) be open on a Friday (the 29th)or does "weekend" mean only Saturday and Sunday? It looks as if the 30th is going to be a travel day for the OP.

Thanks for your reply. We are planning on taking a train ride there and worse case we will only get to view the outside of the windmills... which will be a neat experience.

I've been twice and fortunately, at least one mill (the so-called "color mill" which was used to grind paint pigments) was open both times. It is interesting to be able to go throughout the inside and see all the gears, etc.

Some feel the whole place is either too touristy or too contrived or both. However, it is a quick trip out from Amsterdam by train and then just a few minutes' walk from the RR station to the site itself. Hopefully, you'll enjoy it.
