Ypres and Dunkirk, or????
Hi- At the end of a river cruise (middle November), I was planning on visiting Dunkirk, then Ypres. One night for each, then 2 nights Ghent and last night before return to US would be Brussels.
I now find out that the Dunkirk 1940 museum is closed for the year after 11 November, and we'll be there the 15th. The WW2 aspect was why we were going to visit, certainly not the beach weather. My question: I can cancel Dunkirk Hotel, and move Ypres up a night. Planning on a guided tour in Ypres. Anyplace else either WW1 or 2 related we might want to check out? We'll have a car until Ghent. I just saw something about the Wellington Tunnels which looked interesting...just don't want to have to drive too far. Thanks |
There is no lack of sites to visit in the area, not necessarily on the coast. This old photo report that I made might give you a few ideas: World War I cemeteries of the Pas de Calais | Any Port in a Storm
And you will not regret visiting Ypres: Ypres with the blood wiped away | Any Port in a Storm |
One night in Ypres will not be enough.

We will be staying in Talbot House, which is the old R&R sanctuary that the soldiers used behind British lines.
I think I will just stay in Ypres the second night. Thanks to you both. |
