Youth Hostiles
 

I don't know how frequently people that use this site also know about youth hostiles, but it seems to be worth a try! I have found very interesting and helpful stories and experiences while reading through the posted threads, but nothing on youth hostiles. <BR> <BR>If anyone knows any information about them, most specifically in Italy, but general information is more than welcome. For a list of the youth hostels in Italy associated with IYHF (International Youth Hostel Federation?) look at <BR>http://www.hostels-aig.org/shop-it/it-map.htm <BR> <BR>My daughters used the one in Venice and found it excellent (clean, good breakfast and rooms for 6 people). This is in the Giudecca Island, a 5-minute boat ride to San Marco. The only drawback was its curfew at 11pm. <BR> <BR>We also visited the hostels in Padua, Rome and Florence. In Padua, the hostel is located in the center of the old town. In Rome and Florence both are very nice properties in parks, somewhat outside from where the action is, but with convenient transportation near by. <BR> <BR>The rates for B&B vary from Lit 23,000 to Lit 27,000. <BR> <BR>Paulo <BR>

During my first whirlwind trip through Europe we stayed in youth hostals, but actually not in Italy. Look at a Let's Go book for specifics on the hostals and cheaper accomodations for all of Italy. The advantages of hostals: the price (usually can't be beat), meeting people. <BR>Disadvantages: curfews, lockouts, often males and females sleeping in separate dorm rooms, sometimes their locations can be out-of-the way. In Barcelona, the hostal had a "quiet hours" policy in addition to a curfew and showers that let out a burst of hot water when you pressed a button, and then turned off (until you pressed the button again). In 1992, we didn't spend more than $15 per person for any accomodation on a dirt cheap month long tour.

Thanks to everyone who has responded despite the misspelled header! Quite an embarrassing slipup, but I guess it just goes to show how little I know about the topic, though I have learned quite a bit more thanks to you all, and of course my search has improved 10 fold since the spelling correction!!
