Your preference: Kenmare vs. Dingle as base?

Lots of you seem to love both Kenmare and Dingle, and we are planning to spend about a week around that region. We'd rather self cater, and if we do, most likely will rent a place for the entire week. If so, would you recommend Dingle or Kenmare as a base???? We are a family with teens, like history, hiking, beach, crafts, don't mind some driving. Thanks!

I would stay in or near Killarney - split the difference. With teens, lots more to do. ((b))

Budman, thanks for that thought.

I agree with Budman. Killarney is an excellent base for doing the southwest. You can do day trips to Kenmare and Dingle but Killarney gives you more options for entertainment, pubs, restaurants, etc.
