Your Opinion on Lisbon Neighborhoods

Hi all,

Working on a future Portugal trip. I’d love to get your opinions on what neighborhood to rent an Airbnb in and why?

This is a family trip with our 3 kids in their 20s. We like to be close to the buzz with nice cafes, bars and restaurants easily accessible. In Paris, we love Saint Germain des Pres. In London, while beautiful, Mayfair is too quiet for us with any pub or restaurant a 15-minute walk away.

Thank you,

The Baixa and Chiado are two of the most central neighborhoods. Rossio Square is the main or liveliest square, so any accommodation near there would be right in the heart of things. The Alfama is another great (hilly) neighborhood with lots of character. I can't comment on the availability of AirBnBs in the areas, as I stayed in a hotel near the Cais do Sodre train station (which is a little outside the center but with great transportation connections).

I just spent six days in a beautiful Lisbon Rentals Chiado apartment with three bedrooms and two and a half baths. It was directly across the street from Teatro da Trindade, just a half block from Praça Luís de Camões, where you can pick up the Tram 28 and walking tours. It could not have been more convenient (or lively). Restaurants everywhere! It was only our first time in Lisbon, but I would highly recommend it for access to all neighborhoods!

I can second the recommendation of a Chiado apartment within a block or two of the Praça Luís de Camões for the convenience of the tram 28 or the Chiado-Baixa metro, plentiful restaurants , boutiques, chocolate shops, cafés and bakeries for those great pasteis de nata.... And it's a lively neighborhood that your kids in their 20s would enjoy.

Hi- I've used Homing vacation rentals twice, with the third time being in a month.

They have 30+ apartments, all over the city, all different types. I stayed in a small one bedroom the first time when I was solo, then a nice 3 bedroom with loft when I was with my two adult daughters. Easy to work with so far, and the apartments have been nice and affordable. Good luck. Get a subway/tram pass and explore. If you're flying into Lisbon and have the time, the first two nights in Sintra are a great way to settle in and get over jet lag.
