www.tripadvisor.com - the reviews are very helpful and have not failed me yet:-)

Fodors. Not the regular listings, but rather right here on Travel Talk. If you do a search and can't find previous discussions, listing a hotel by name in a title question will almost always get you some responses from real travelers.

For user reviews, I pay attention to www.venere.com and have posted reviews there myself. TripAdvisor, of course, is my first line of defense. This message board (Fodors) is then the final arbiter.
