Your favorite trip reports?

I'm in the mood to read some fantastic trip reports about some great trips! Anyone who can point me to some great trip report threads - not just Europe but anywhere in the world - I'd be grateful! Thanks much!

suspire Aug 26th, 2007 08:56 AM

By the way, before someone suggests it - I am indeed searching on "trip report" and reading what I find. I just know there are so many out there that it would be easy to miss a really great one! Just looking for some suggestions. Thanks!

My all-time favorite is "Report trip to Copenhagen, Arhus, Berlin...." Maryfran has a great sense of humor and writes very well.

Some really good reading on this forum!

Oh, these look fabulous. I can't wait! I'm copying and pasting into Word for a good long read.

For those looking for the Copenhagen report mentioned above, I found it here:

Thanks and keep them coming!

Byrd Aug 26th, 2007 12:10 PM

What was the title of SharonG's hilarious saga of Italy and Paris? Remember Le Clip, the Trip Nazi, etc?

As recommended above, find anything by MaiTaiTom, Theresa's trip to Rome, plus the classics by the long-gone Elvira.

And for mouth-watering mind-boggling descriptions of food and wine, you must read Ira's escapades throughout Europe.

Go to the personal site of the Go family at www.onelittleworld.com and see several good ones with great pics to match.

gracie04 Aug 26th, 2007 12:39 PM

Off the top of my head, I would have to say anything by maitaitom. I also really enjoy SusanP's Italy trip reports. Oh! and Barb's Diva trip report, that's a good one!

suspire,

I'm glad you brought this up, as I've been trying to remember my favorite trip report so I could read it again. LC Bonitie came up with it,

"Rome I Loved it" by Theresa10

I loved her report becausee she wasn't trying to impress us with her writing skills (which are fine) just gave us a wonderful detailed report of her trip with her family. I'd love to meet her and give her a huge hug.

I think it was Elvira who did a classic on the Veneto. Worth seeking out.

LowCountryIslander Sep 1st, 2007 10:54 AM

Two of my favorite trip reports were by fodorite Laartista. One of a trip to the south of France and the other of a trip to Morrocco earlier this year.

floydvic Sep 1st, 2007 11:27 AM

Laartista's report on her Moroccan adventures is my favorite:

It would be a plus if Fodors had a separate section for trip reports. Then we could just go there to find them. These are some of my favorites.

I have lost the link to a long trip report that was fantastic about a group of women in Europe that started as friends and ended as a trip from hell. Anyone remember it? It might have had "divas" in the title.

Fidel Sep 1st, 2007 02:52 PM

"The Pancaky Papers" of course -- Thingorjus goes to Prague!

Fidel Sep 1st, 2007 02:55 PM

Whoops, depressed post too soon.

And I like cigalechanta's last Paris report because she went to art galleries, fashion places and the like. She writes atmospherically.

Clea Sep 1st, 2007 04:29 PM

I can't believe no has mentioned St. Cirq's. I read one of hers a few years ago about the taxi driver in Paris..., she was hillarious, I have been a Fodor's addict every since!

Clea

marginal_margiela Sep 1st, 2007 07:03 PM

Well, I will mention St. Cirq because she is my favorite travel writer here in Fodorville. I also LOVE O'Reilly (Ger) and Monica Pileggi.

My secretary, Christine, thinks Monica is "the bomb!"

Oh my gosh, I hadn't looked at this for several days and there have been so many additions since I last looked! Thanks and keep them coming!

I've printed off 300 pages of trip reports - 9 point type and put into two columns to save space - this is some great reading! Thanks to everyone!

Floydvic...

Uh, that link you posted comes up with a thread titled <<What to do at Frankfurt Airport>>

I enjoyed laartista's reports on her trip to Spain, and Budapest. I haven't read the Morroco one, and would like to. Please post the correct link!

My favourites have been by Thingorjus aka Marginal Margiela, Maitaitom not drinking all the vino in Italy, Barb and the Divas, tcreath writes very well as do SusanP and images2, and I used to laugh aloud at Billy'n'Betty Jones's threads, though they weren't really trip reports as such they were so worth reading just for fun!

suspire Sep 2nd, 2007 11:20 AM

Thingorjus / marginal_margiela - I just noticed you're here! I can't find your Pancaky Papers report - would you be so kind as to send the link? It sounds like a great report!

suspire, it is here if you go back to yesterday.
I agree about St Cirq's reports but she is a professionl writer and, by the way, a great tour quide should you need one or a place to rent in the Dordogne.

Leely Sep 2nd, 2007 06:01 PM

I love all kinds of trip reports, and it's very hard to single any out, but I "hang out" mostly on the Africa board and Nyamera's Double Mara is amazing.

Any of Nyamera's Kenya reports are great, but for those of us who have been following her attempts to get back to her favorite place on earth, this was truly something special. She's also hilarious.
