Your favorite little "shop" in Provence?
Our trip is getting close - would love to get input on your favorite little shops in Provence. If you don't know the name, no problem...just describe its approximate location in whatever village.
Areas we are planning on visiting: Roussillon, Lourmarin, Ansouis, Uzes, Cucuron, Le Crestet, Pernes les Fontaine, Aups, Cotignac, Forcalquier, Tourtour, Pertuis. |
There's a lovely linen shop right on the main square in Uzès (it's on a corner) where I bought a gorgeous boutie and some really nice napkins a few years ago.
Too bad you're not going to St-Rémy. I have three favorites there. |
Oh, and I'm glad to see you're going to Le Crestet, which is absolutely darling. There aren't any shops there, though - at least none that I saw.
|
Thanks StCirq - we've been to St. Remy and yes, they have an abundance of nice shops.
I've got to ask you though...what is a "boutie" ? Sorry for my ignorance. I do love linens so I'll look forward to finding the shop you mentioned. |
Ooops, spelling alert! It's a bouti, not a boutie (I guess I just wanted to make it feminine).
It's one of those lovely quilts they make all over Provence, often out of those lovely provençal fabrics. |
It is boutis! :-))
|
Oh, jeez.....well, that's what happens when you've only heard a word and never seen it written (happens to me in English, too!).
|
Thanks - I know what you're talking about - I bought one in a shop in Apt and I am the envy of many of my friends because of it - it's beautiful!
Boutie...learn something every day don't you... |
Well, it is possible to buy 'somethig' in le Crestet - a
coffee at the little resto at the crest of the crest. But if you're there you can go to Bedoin or Vaison to get your shopping fix b/c both villages are close by. Don't recall too much in the way of boutiques in Pernes - but some art galleries IIRC. |
My favorite is in Lourmarin.
COTE BASTIDE. Linens, soaps, fragrances, pottery, summer bags, a few clothes and more. It's built in a cave. www.cotebastide.com |
I also think that Uzes saturday market is a great place for pottery, the market spills over the street outside the plaza des
herbs. |
Thanks so much! I went to Cote Bastide website - I can't wait - looks like my kind of place.
|
Good! I'm glad you found it too your taste. Nothing there is touristy but of high quality.
|
Another place I like, but tres cher is Edith Mezard's Chateau in Lumieres where she has a boutique, She's famous for embroided linens with " legends" guotes. I bought a brown tablecloth that a customer did not return for, with a quote of The Little Prince. I use it as a window drape.
