YOUR FAVORITE ITALIAN VILLAGES?

If could chose only 6 places in italy without couting rome florence and venice what places would you chose, thanks in advance for your help.

Jennifer, I have thought about that one many times and have followed thru. Of course, it depends on geography, so let me give you 6 north and 6 south. Are you ready--here they are. BTW, I draw the line at Rome:
NORTH:
Lago Orta/Maggiore
Portovenere
Val Gardena
Val d' Orcia
Siena
Volterra

SOUTH:
Positano
Taormina
Alberobello
Maratea
Gaeta/Sperlonga
You will need a map for some of these, but I assume that is the reason you asked in the first place.

Vernazza (any Cinque Terra except Monta rossa)
Siena
Lucca
Positano
Varenna (cozy Lake Como village within spitting distance of Bellagio. Albergo Olivedo is the perfect place to begin an Italian adventure)

Mine would all be in Tuscany and Umbria - Siena; Orvieto; Spello; San Gimignano; Volterra; and Spoleto, not necessarily in that order.
