Your favorite hotels in Poland & Amsterdam?
 

I'm looking for hotel recommendations in Gdansk, Warsaw, Krakow & Amsterdam in the following budgets:

Poland $60-$105 and $105-150
Amsterdam $150-$200 and $200-$250

We would like to do a skimp & splurge combo, saving on some stays & splurging a little on others that's why the two price points.

Location/access: In Poland we'll be doing typical sight seeing & touristy things. In Amsterdam we will just kinda hang out; maybe do a walking tour, canal ride, some shopping, some cocktailing & visit some cafes. (No museums or specific sights).

Travel is in late fall (end Nov-early Dec), so someplace cozy & warm with good hot showers is ideal. Balcony/terrace/pool/gym unimportant. Would also like a bar/restaurant on premise, though not a deal breaker. Good coffee a bonus!

Hotel CC was a little less as good but in the heart of Amsterdam and by the red light district. Perfect for groups as rooms for 3 and 4 at reasonable prices.

In Poland, family owned Hotel Pollera is EASY walking distance to tourist info., train station and Rynek Glowny, the main square in Krakow.

In Warsaw we stayed at the Castle Inn, funky and kinda kitschy, centrally located in the rebuilt Old Town, inexpensive. Friendly staff who complimented me on my Polish accent when I arrived and said, "Czesc!" lol, they were being verrrry generous.

We stayed at Hotel Pugetow in Krakow, more expensive, located in the converted carriage house of an old mansion, between the old center and Kazimierz. Really nice and comfy. Narrow stairs down to the breakfast room.

We also had a drink at their sister hotel, the Grodek, which was lovely and slightly more central. Worth a splurge, I think.

In Amsterdam I stayed at the Toren. Dramatically decorated and in an excellent location. Worth a splurge if you like the decor. Might be too expensive, though. Check it out.

For the Old Poland look, sugest The Francus(h)ki at the Barbican. Five minutes to Ryneck Glowny. The stair case alone is worth it..excelent breakfasts...rates under $100 I recall.

In Amsterdam, for a splurge highty reommend The Seven Bridges on the Regulier Canal...easy walk to Rijks Museum and diamond shops one way, and downtown, the Dam etc the other way. May be up to $250 by now. You pay for elegance.

In Warsaw, The Europejski...same description as Francus(h)ki, but much larger. A winding, broad staircase, decent rooms (ugly reminder, though, that Hitler held his victory celebration here)..great buffets and walking distance to old town and former ghetto. Proably within your splurge rates now.

We've stayed all over Amsterdam and these days, as then, we tend to stay in places which offer convenience for/to the things we want to do/places we want to see.

Lately we have stayed at the Crowne Plaza which is around the corner, literally, from the Centraal Station and is on one of the tram lines which takes you to the Rijks and Van Gogh. And they will sell you transport tickets.

We like the rooms, we like the breakfast, and although it is not decorated internally as richly as some of the other places we have stayed, we continue to use it.

We stayed in the same hotel that john mentioned and thought it was a very good location and hotel.

I have one favourite hotel in Poland. It's not a Gdansk but seaside too. I decided to mention it because we don't know if your plans change. MAybe you'll have time to visit this place. :) This is Kormoran Hotel in small village Rowy. Here: http://www.kormoran-rowy.pl/en/core/...?_PageID=55069 Rowy is close to Ustka calleg the Baltic Pearl. :) I love this place because it's not full of noisy tourist and the romms, food and staff are perfect. I really enjoyed my staing there and I'll definitely come back in the future. :)

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, a lot of viable options here. Amsterdam in particular just has so much to pick from and sort through that it's overwhelming, so I appreciate your help.

Leely2 - I was already all over the Toren, very interested in this place. But I cannot get any availability for any dates beyond a month from now. I think either the online booking function is not working properly or they just do not accept reservations so far out. I emailed them a couple days ago and have received no response as of yet...

Tower - great suggestions! Never would have found Seven Bridges on my own. The Europejski seems to be under major renovation, probably not an option for our dates. Looks like it would certainly fall in the splurge category when completed.

In Krakow I've been on the fence between staying in the Rynek Główny area or the Kazimierz district. Then I found this place that appears to be a newer offering. Great location!!! That is a gorgeous street, and when I was there it seemed a tiny bit quieter than many parts of Stare Miasto. Looks like this might be right across the street:

That apartment looks wonderful and for about 270US a night you get breakfast, plus taxes paid.
