Can you give a few numbers when you say budget? Some have a budget that are a lot higher than others...

My favorite restaurant in all of Italy is Il Ritrovo, via de' Pucci, 4/A. Dinner for two with a bottle of wine is around 75E. The lovely Rosetta will welcome you and her husband, Marco, runs the kitchen. The best.

Cibreo. my FAVE! When we went, I remember agonizing over 2 different appetizers and two different desserts. When those courses came, they brought me BOTH. Plus a "welcome" glass of white wine and antipasti platter. And food was WOW.
The main restuarant may be a little $$, but there are casual alternatives to the main room. |
I second the recommendation on Il Ritrovo. Although our bill for two came up on the high end (including a Euro 80 bottle wine that I was glad I ordered), the food were prepared with the freshest ingredients. His grilled meats were done perefectly, with or without the wine reduction sauce. The fresh and very good antipasti and pasta dishes were generously served that finishing off the secondi piattis can be a challenge, in a positive way.

Just to follow through, and to cover as much range of your possible budget, Nerbonne inside Mercato Centrale is a bustling eatery amongst the stalls in the market. This place is a popular eating establishment amongst the locals and the food ranges from their famous bolito (boiled beef) sandwiches to tasty pasta and risotto, and very well made savory meat dishes. Order a couple of dishes and a half-caraffe of their house wine, sit among the local market shoppers in one of their communal tables and chow away. This is always one of our favorite repeat experiences whenever we're in Florence.

We ate twice at the Bacchus Wine Bar, just round the corner from the Grand Hotel and the Excelsior.
Reasonably priced, decent food, good service, and a cheerful ambience - a combination not always easy to find in Florence! |
For an inexpensive meal that tastes expensive, I really enjoy Aqua al Due--don't be turned off by the fact that the owner opened a second location in...San Diego! The food is splendid, and the price is outrageously cheap. My husband and I order the pasta sampler--they bring 5 different pastas in appetizer portions--the food just keeps coming and coming. Then we split an entree--the filet with blueberry sauce (which is not sweet) is our favorite. With a bottle of house red, our bill barely tops 45 euros for two. They have a dessert sampler too--watch out!
