Your experience....lost in Tuscany.

This is our first trip to Tuscany. We'll be there for a week. Although I'm one of those anal planners, I expect that we'll get lost. We'll have a car and I have directions from all the sources (viamichelin, mappy, etc.).

Do you have any experiences to share about "getting lost in Tuscany"?

Did you make some great discovery along the way?

We didn't exactly get lost, but while attempting to find a winery in Chianti, we were driving down a dirt road. Instead of finding the winery, we drove past an artist's home (at least I hope it was an artist's home!) because parading across the rolling lawn were a family of bright, multi-colored cows!

Made a GREAT photo!

Dayle,

Sounds like a true Kodak moment.

I wonder if Christo was behind that one?

Please share that photo!

Even though every cross road is marked with signs, and getting around by car is the way to go, it is very easy to get lost. That's why I like to have a GPS.

Maps, directions, etc are great to tell you where you want to go, but they don't tell you where you are.

Some of best finds were when I was driving around with no particular place to go, going to or from the market with groceries for dinner, or just wanting to get out by myself for an hour while the family rested.

- Stopping in at a random winery near Montalcino or Montepulciano

- Roadside pictures of sunflowers, vineyards, hilltop towns, picturesque streets, etc.

- Small cheese and olive producers for tasting.

No great discoveries, just simple, sometimes short stops that make the overall trip enjoyable.

I didn't get lost but one did come to a "T" on a small road and both left and right signs had arrows to the same town!

A car pulled up and pointed me to the right, so I headed in that direction.
