This summer we spent $30 for a hot dog, potatoe salad, and two bottled lemon ice teas. Course, we were at Stieregg, Switzerland above Grindelwald. Take the Pfingstegg tram, hike 1.5 hours back towards the glacier, and YOU'LL pay $30 for lunch. Course, while we were eating at the restaurant a piece of the glacier fell off making a loud noise and everyone oooed and awwwwed and got all excited. In all fairness, it was a wurst of some kind and not a hot dog. Food had to be packed in by horses.

Some days we make a picnic that comes out to about $4 a person, some days we stop for lunch at a nice restaurant and spend $20 a person. Some days we have pizza, some days we have foie gras. It's vacation, we go with the flow and with whatever opportunities present themselves when we're hungry. What are you upset about? That OTHER people are spending THEIR money? <BR><BR>

Well, while I was in Switzerland this summer I had a FREE lunch. We went up to the top of the Schilthorn by tram, and ordered the James Bond Breakfast (champagne, eggs, rolls, bread, lunchmeat, cheese, orange juice). Of course, we couldn't eat it all, so made sandwiches, wrapped them in napkins, stuffed them in my backpack, and ate them for lunch. Well, technically we did pay for the food (do I have to count paying for breakfast cause it was expensive).

XXX that wasn't very nice. And DFDF (vat kind of name is dat anyway) I doubt that they knew I was American because I speak Swiss fluently. I was also dressed in native Swiss costume.<BR><BR>See, Swiss Air lost our luggage so we went in a tourist shop in Lucerne and bought native costumes. Papa looked so cute in laderhosen. We also got our wallets and credit cards stolen (good thing we have dual citizenship because we just went to the Swiss embassay and had them replaced). So, Papa put out his hat, played a little song, I yodeled and those tourists were so happy to contribute to us. Plus we slept in the straw so our vacation was real cheap.<BR>

Yep. There are people who actually spend money in costly restaurants. That's ridiculous. Actually, there's even worse. There are people who spend a lot of money going to foreign places though staying home would be *much* cheaper. Also there are people who spend money on a nice car though they could just buy a cheap bicycle, and so on. People are just weird.<BR><BR><BR>More seriously : I'm personnally amazed at what people spend on hotels, and consider "cheap". I've never spent anywhere near that on accomodations. But that's their money, not mine. My concept of a fine hotel is a bed with a roof above it. My concept of a fine restaurant usually includes more than a steak with french fries beside it.
