You pick the spot in Scotland !

Hubby and I are going to Leeds, England to pick up our daughter before heading to Edinburgh for 3 days on a rail pass. We are still seeking answers to find out where to go from there on the rail pass. Does anyone know of any town/city that you would go to from Edinburgh to stay for a few days?We want to use the rail pass and see something on the way to our last destination. You pick where that will be please! Just stumped and need your advice. Thank you.

You have had several answers, however, consider Oban. Ferry and bus service to Mull and Iona for a day trip.

Sorry , rogerdodger, but I didn't feel I had a definitive answer. Now I do! Thank you. Sorry if I was a bother.

What don't you like about the suggestions on your other threads?

Our posts crossed - sounds like you have made up your mind.

Not a problem. If you go to Oban from Edinburgh you need to catch the train from Glasgow Queen Street station. I could look it up but I believe there is an 8:20 to Oban from Glasgow and another around 12:00 or so. The trains from Edingurgh go to Queen street so that will not be a problem. The Oban bound train is a four carriage train, the front two cars go their seperate way once at Crianlarich, on up to Ft. William and Mallaig, while the back two go to Oban.

Thank you. I have read enough to start to make definitive plans to Scotland. Thanks to all who gave their opinions. What a wealth of info!

Does it have to be Scotland? The city of York is on the express train route from Edinburgh and is a superb place to visit. You could get there from Leeds, I'm sure. As someone who lived in Edinburgh for ten years, I would pick York every time.

Culross is a beautiful town on the water near Edinburgh. It is in the Kingdom of Fife and has a lovely "pink" palace with a vaulted, painted ceiling. It is not realy a palace - more a beautiful town house and is well worth a visit. And McDonalds pub is a delightful place to have a beer or coffee. Climb up the wee tower for a great view.

Cheers,
sss
