Scarlett
this is one of the most interesting postings in a long while. For a moment there, it made me go all dreamy.
Thanks!

<<You have 2 wishes:

1. People stop posting in caps

2. People stop using Bold, Italics, Underlining.....>>

People seem to use different approaches to emphasize specific words... to which they wish to draw attention in their posts.

I note that in "wish two", ira, you Capitalized the First Letter of three perfectly ordinary words... none of which is a proper noun.

Still, I actually do agree with you that putting the entire header in boldface is a trend that ought not take hold, lest everyone feel compelled to do it... to "compete".

Best wishes,

Rex

What's this, an episode of "Desperate Housewives," with a soundtrack from Christina Aguilera?

I'm shocked, absolutely shocked that SashieZ hasn't posted here to accuse someone of having "WAY too much time on her hands" and recommending "it's time for a volunteer job."

Geez, the double standard on this board. Maybe one has to belong to just the right coffee-clutch here on Fodor's ThornyBush Lane.

Just to piggyback on NYCFoodSnob's post, did you have trouble getting to sleep last night, Scarlett.

I think the Genie cancelled FoodSnob's Frequent Flyer Points.

All over England
Simon Schama

or

Troy and the Aegean
Michael Wood

or (assuming the genie can resurrect)

Northern France
Barbara Tuchman

Taking along a movie star would, in my opinion, be a waste of time.

My first place would be Istanbul, but since I'm already planning that trip I'm going to have to pick somewhere else.

Assuming Genie is picking up the tab and sending me first class, I'd have to pick Japan. Japan has alway been out of the budget and somewhere I've always wanted to see.

If I were going to the Louvre, I'd take Sister Wendy.

I would love to see the Great Wall of China (should I not have used capital letter?) The Genie could just twitch her nose like Samantha and I could be there. The long airtrip, even first class, would never do.

I would , of course, invite St David, but should he decline, Pierce Brosnan would be a suitable replacement. I wonder how he feels about older women?

Well... the trip I am currently planning to France and Pais Vasco... with my wife, of course (now if this is a fantasy I can subsidize, then I would pay for Juliette Binoche to come with us!)

But, in the spirit in which it was asked - - either London or a wandering meander through various countries to the east and south of Krakow... with Ben Haines (me as his valet; he as my guide and teacher).

Best wishes,

Rex

I found a bottle on the beach, rubbed it, and the genie responded by saying I will be granted one wish. I said "I'm afraid of flying and want to go to Europe. Would you build me a nice highway across the ocean all the way from the U.S. to Europe?"

The genie really thought about it for a while and finally said, "I simply can't grant that kind of wish. It's far too extreme a request."

"OK," I said, "instead just explain women to me."

Again, the genie thought carefully and finally said, "Do you want that bridge two-lane or four-lane?"

Hi Scarlett -

Robespierre, I love Sister Wendy! She is the best, great answer!

My answer would be Venice with my dashing husband, because even though our trip is booked, January appears ooooooooh sooooooooo far away!

Scarlett, Would the genie allow for for passage to Florence seeing as we are booked there too? (You see I have already been there, but need to show her to my sweetie.)

Happy Saturday, T.

Oh Scarlett - this is my kind of question! I have, for many years, enjoyed the occasional day dream about just what I'd wish for if ever I did find a genie of the lamp and was granted three wishes for anything in the world...

To respond to your questions:

Question 2 is the easiest to answer - I couldn't wish for a better travel companion than my husband so it would definitely be him...

Question 1 is more difficult. I'm with Sally on the assumption that the genie will allow me to specify not only the destination but the details too and I'll be able to choose accommodation and activities, opt for private trip to exclude any unwanted additional travel companions, book the services of all the best staff, experts, guides etc....

I'm assuming I won't need those first class seats as my genie will magic us there and back a la Star Trek instant beaming.

I can't narrow it down but, if I had to make up my mind tomorrow and had no time to research (to be able to provide those all important details) it'd be a return trip to the Antarctic where we went last November/ December. We'd go with the same company and on the same ship, get the staff and experts plus some additional ones too, have the main luxury suite (though on this particular ship that's more a case of more space and a tiny bathtub than luxury as on regular cruise ships) and have longer on the trip overall.

If I was allowed time to research I might opt for Madagascar or The Arctic or something.

No wait, I've just thought of it. I know where I want to go!

Destination: Space to include excursions to the moon and to Mars.

Appropriate luxury accommodation and services to be created by the genie in advance to our specs/ taste.

How's that?

p.s. Could my 'found bottle' be on any beach in the South Pacific?

Genie's choice.

I have two places...the first would be Mt. Everest, with DH of course. Now if I did not make it to the summit, then I would want my 2nd choice, Norway. Gee, pretty greedy this morning huh? lol! Oh, and I would take DH with me there too.

I would go to either China or South Africa with an as-yet-to-be-found person who is excited about those destinations, pleasant to travel with, has a good sense of humor, likes to try new things, and an extra bonus would be if he/she knew a lot about the country (kind of like what it would be going to Rome with ParadiseLost!).
