Yotel at London Airports
 

Has anyone stayed at the Yotel at Gatwick Airport? I understand that a Yotel will open in Heathrow this fall, and we are planning to stay there between flights this winter.

How did you find the rooms? Is the standard large enough for two to nap, or should we book a premium? Any other helpful advice?

OK - the Yotel at LHR was supposed to open in June, then "Fall '07" and now the website says bookings available from Dec '07. So who knows??

I haven't stayed at the LGW Yotel - and probably would not unless it was just for a 6 or 7 hour layover. Their pricing is partly based on number of hours - so a full overnight would be about the same as just getting a nearby hotel/B&B and more expensive than using Priceline.

The "standard" rooms seem pretty sub-standard to me -- teeny tiny. And the Deluxe rooms are pretty expensive.

Sort of like easyHotels - seem cheap at frist glance but not so cheap when all totaled up.

We are just looking at Yotel for a day room for seven/eight hours. They quote a price of $100 for that period for a standard room and $150 for a premium room. Can we do better than that without leaving the airport?

I suspect you could - but why do you want to stay on the airport - there are hotels nearby which will offer free transfers.

What about looking www.travelodge.co.uk. They have a hotel in Feltham - 3 miles away from Heathrow & right next to the railway station. Their maximum rate is £60, but the earlier you book the cheaper it could be.

They have other hotels in the area (for example ones on the M4 service stations from £15 upwards). For example if you look at the 13th December you can get the Heston Eastbound hotel (3 miles from Heathrow) for £15!!!

Might it not be less expensive to purchase a Day Pass to your airlines lounge? I know it's only $50.00 for AA, you can eat, drink and relax in quiet.

The Yotel at Heathrow, if it ever opens, will be landside at T4. If you're transferring between planes in T1, 2 or 3, you'll be as good as leaving the airport by going to T4, and the hotels along the Bath Rd to the north of T1-3 will actually be nearer.

One or two airlines do sell daypasses to their lounges. Almost all don't, and you can access those that do only if they're in the same terminal you're departing from. So the American Airlines one, for example, is only any use if you're departing from T3.

Short access can be bought to some non-airline lounges, like those operated by Servisair. But almost all limit your access to three hours.
