York or Cotswolds - 4 days - reservations needed?

We're going to England in April and trying to decide where to visit besides London where we already have a house exchange lined up. We were planning on the Cotswolds when a neighbor told us not to miss York so now we're struggling with exactly where to spend our few precious days outside of London. Where do you recommend and do we need reservations in April. We have a car rental and are considering just hitting the road and seeing where it takes us.

There's no right answer to this - you are comparing apples and pears.
I live near York and it is gorgeous up here - the Dales, the Moors, York itself. I could sing its praises for ever. You'd love it. But then again a Cotswold local could do the same with their area.
Wherever you go I would definitely book. For Yorkshire try www.yorkshire.net com for lots of ideas.

There are plenty of great hotels in york where you could stay - but most require a reservation. heres a great hotel my wife and I stayed at and would recommend http://www.marmadukeshotels.co.uk you can also reserve yor room online.

Hi,

I've never been to York, but the Cotswolds are certainly beautiful. I visited as a daytrip from London and it was one of the highlights of my trip.

be sure you book hotels in advance. Peak travel season is coming! people will flock to London.
My fd is at Cotswolds for 2 days trip right now. she recommends the website: http://www.travelintelligence.net/ for you. There are travel reviews and hotel recommendations on Cotswolds.

Worth reading the thread called

Yorkshire visitor web sites

Gives an overview. Reservations in April in York should not be needed

Hi again,

The towns I visited were Burford, Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold. The three of them were tiny and gorgeous.
