yodel-ay yodel-ay yodel-ay hee hoo (Germany, maybe Austria, ending in Netherlands)

in the planning stages of a trip...

my thoughts:
cut a swath from the Munich area to visit friends (maybe Salzburg for a short time), then up through Heidelberg to visit some friends who work for the Red Cross and the DoD... ultimately ending in Amsterdam. Hitting along the way - the Hague.

or perhaps vice versa..

has anyone done this route, how hurried would I be with a car and ten days- two weeks time.

any places of which you have fond memories, pass 'em on.

thanks much.

LJG

There is a lot of info on this board about all those places. Have you done a search? Also, it's about 525 kilometers between Munich and Amsterdam, so not too hard to figure out how long it takes to drive. That really depends on you.

My husband & I made this drive in about the same time frame last year. We started in Amsterdam & rented a car there. We made the trip down to Bacharach, Stuttgart (family there), Rothenburg to Ruette Austria. The drive was easy & the scenery beautiful. I would make the trip, the same way again tomorrow if the bank would only let me!!

You have friends who live there. It would be most wise to ask them what places they recommend for your visit. Any suggestions that cover that much distance (836 miles according to the Michelin Atlas of Europe) will vary considerably, depending on the experience and preferences of the individual making the suggestions. You've already decided on Salzburg and Heidelberg, so those destinations plus driving time will take a few days. My only specific recommendation is that after leaving Heidelberg, you plan to spend a day driving along the Mosel River, one of the most scenic and charming areas in all of Germany. And having been to the Hague, I'd say it's also worth a visit. That just about consumes all your time.
