Great TR.

I'm curious how you chose TPT. You had negative reviews for it before.

I used to be a regular at TPT around 15 years ago and I got to know the owner back then. It wasn't because it was the best food in town but it reminded me of a comforting Chinese restaurant in another city. I just liked it. I even recommended it here on Fodor's a few times 15 or so years ago. But back then the food in Chinatown was generally very far behind what you can get today.

I stopped going to TPT probably around 12 years ago as Chinatown's quality options improved greatly and I found new places to like. Never really looked back but sometimes I think about going in when I walk by. I wonder if the same very friendly and very smart owner still owns it. I never go in mainly because rightly or wrongly I think I might be disappointed. Maybe the owner and waitress would recognise me and wonder where I've been. Sad that you were disappointed. I probably will go back some day for old time's sake.

Would you mind sharing the places you like in Chinatown?

I tend to be a creature of habit so these aren't necessarily the newest and most coveted restaurants but I tend to gravitate toward those I enjoy:
  • Leongs Legend
  • Dumpings Legend
  • Baozi Inn
  • Jen Cafe (for quick snack only, not a proper meal).

Few areas of London have so much vibrancy in terms of new and good restaurants popping up all the time and I don't even try to keep up with the latest buzzes. A huge change from 15-20 years ago.
