Yikes! Heathrow Transfer from Russell Square for EARLY flight

Just realized that our 6:40 pm flight is actually 6:40 am. need to get from russell square to heathrow by 5:30 so can check bags for flight to geneva. yikes.... just barely too early for easy tube ride. (earliest would arrive at 5:46) ..... heathrow express means taking a taxi to paddington. is that our best bet... or is there a recommended and very reliable shuttle service??? with a shuttle, what time would you londeners recommend a pick-up.
thanks MUCH... kawh

This is one for a minicab/booked car service. Most Fodorites seem to swear by justairports.com, but there are local minicab companies all over London (I hear them turning up for my neighbours in the wee small hours a couple of times of week). If you're staying in a hotel, they will know of reliable local services, or you can go through TfL's approved services:
www.tfl.gov.uk/forms/12389.aspx

A black cab hailed on the street will cost much more.

thanks, patricklondon... we are staying at a b&b (celtic) but i will ask them... i'm sure we won't be the first to have such a problem. after freaking out, i decided that, having been to london several times, and never having taken a taxi... i'll just look at it as a very expensive amusement ride. i just can't believe we made this mistake when we booked this flight!!

Maybe the easy way is to check out of the B&B the day before and stay at a hotel at LHR for the one night. You can take public transport to Heathrow in your own time.

How this story ended.....up at 3:15 for a 4:00 car which our b&b booked and swears by. Car did not show "this NEVER happens" ...flagged a taxi at dark russell square at 4:30 and arrived at Heathrow just after 5am. Cost a whopping 89pounds...

As was srared here, getting there at 5 for a 6:40 flight was just about right....the bags line got long quickly. No more flights before 730am out of london ever... unless we stay at the terminal.

Glad it worked out for you kawh. However, bear in mind for next time that there are lots of airport hotels out at Heathrow.

at least you made it, though, so that's the good thing. That is expensive, but you were kind of expecting it to cost that to begin with so you did guess right on the taxi fare.

SO what was the name of this company that never showed up? I think that would be consumer advice.

Christina...we will never know...celtic b&b booked it and swears by rhem... Problem Was that when they did not show, their night desk guy did not have their number and WOULD NOT call and wake someone who knew it.

After begging and then threatening to knock on every door, he called...by the time he called then got the car service(who got a cancellation cofused with us)...tthe service sincerely apologised and said they could get a car to us in 10 minutes...but by then too much time had passed and we could not risk it and hubbie had just flagged a taxi. So I blame the night desk guy .... I guess?? Yes... just happy we made it!

Yup. I would have asked for a number for the company and done the booking myself; that way the number's to hand if you need to check.
