Yet Another Rome Hotel Question
 

Hi Everyone,

I'd like to thank everyone who has helped me out so far. :)

My husband and I have decided to spend 6 nights in Rome, instead of splitting our time between Rome and Venice. He prefers to not stay in an apartment, and would like to stay in a hotel instead. He would like a comfortable bed, inclusive breakfast, and a charming setting. I would like a central location, safe area, and clean rooms. I was looking at the Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese, and it seemed to fit most of our wants, even though it is a bit pricey. I would like to stay around $250or less a night if possible. Does anyone have any ideas?

I would prefer Albergo Cesari--better location.

Most hotels include breakfast; many hotels are in charming settings; all of central Rome is safe; I have never come across a dirty room in an Italian hotel.

The Sofitel Roma is not in what most people would define as a central location. A central location in Rome is one in the Pantheon/Campo dei Fiori/Piazza Navona areas.

Small hotel with helpful staff and good breakfast. I have no idea what the prices are because we were here several years ago but I do know the location was very central.

My Granda-daughter and I spent 4 days at the Residenza-Canali-ai Coronari.
The location is super,the staff is friendly and the Breakfast is quite good.Ham, eggs, cheese, cereal, fruits et..,

We stayed in the River Palace Hotel last Spring. It is not really "central" as it is just above the Palazo de Populo (one minute walk) near the Villa Borghese gardens (two minute walk). I really liked the location though, because we could walk to the center of town, the Spanish Steps, and all the plazas in 10 -15 minutes tops. It is right near a metro stop which we took to the Colosseum and to the Vatican. But, we walked back from the Vatican in about 30 minutes along the river. The area was not really touristy and it seems every night after sightseeing we ended up in the Palazo de Populo for great gelato eating and people watching. The rooms are smallish though, but the service and breakfast are wonderful and the building is very pretty and very clean.

We stayed at the Residenza Canali ai Coronari a few years ago and liked it very much. The staff was wonderful - they even gave our daughter a birthday present (a children's book on Rome). The location was wonderful - just steps from the Piazza Navona. We had the room on the top floor with a balcony, which was a nice place to relax. Only drawbacks were there were very loud birds on the nearby rooftop and the hotel has no elevator. Other than that it was great - I highly recommend it. We got a discount because we paid for our room in cash - you might inquire about that possibility.

We stayed in an excellent small friendly hotel on the same street as The Spanish Steps. This was an excellent location. (The name of the hotel escapes me - sorry)

Albergo Cesari, Hotel Due Torri, and Residenza Canali ai Coronari are all good suggestions for a more central location. I think you'll be very pleased with the Albergo Cesari.

I love Sofitel Roma. It is a great hotel in a quiet location that is not besieged with tourists. The rooftop terrace is a great place to escape with a bottle of wine and enjoy the views. We find the location very convenient and we do prefer NOT to stay in the area near the Pantheon these days as we simply find it too busy. For us, the location is ideal.

Albergo Cesare is a solid three star hotel but Sofitel is a luxury property with lovely rooms and elegant bathrooms. Their breakfast is the best I have ever had at a Rome hotel and I have stayed in Rome a dozen times at about 7 hotels.

Sofitel is our first choice for Rome when budget permits. Next is Hotel Capo d'Africa where we have enjoyed three stays so far. The San Amselmo is on our radar for a future stay as it looks delightful and we like the location.
