Yet another question for Albergo Del Senato !! 1st time poster please be nice :o)

And yes, I already did my job of doing a "search" before i posted

I just received confirmation from Del Senato for a double room at approx. 192E! I am assuming this is a reasonable price for this hotel (although thisis a "low" season to go to Italy). So of course I requested a room with a view of the Pantheon and I got the "we cannot guarantee a room" thing. So my question to you, fodorites is, If you booked something similar to this, just their standard Double room, did you end up getting a room with a view to the Pantheon per your request? If by any chance I dont get a room with "the view", what will I end up with?! ( a view of a wall?!) Do you think they will pay attention to my tinsy winsy "special request" if I am only paying approx 192E for my room(which is fraction of what others pay) ? Also, did any of you who got a room with a view, have a bathtub in their bathroom or did you all get a shower?
I am starting to reconsider my hotel decision ...please advice!

Any advice/suggestions would be helpful! Thanks!

Why are you asuming this is a fraction of what others pay? Except in true high season - when the hotels are absoutely full - very few rooms are actually rented at rack rate - almost all are rented at some sort of discount.

Your chances of getting the room with a view - assuming its not a different class of room at a different price which you elected not to pay - are based more on the time of your arrival (when they have lots of rooms available) and how charming you are to the desk staff.

I take it from your screen name that you are going in the "low season" of August. Many hotels in Rome cut their rates in August so I wouldn't worry too much about a cut rate price. The Del Senato has a limited number of standard double rooms that face the Pantheon. Many face the side streets or back. But this is your honeymoon so you want a view. Can you afford to spend a bit more for say, a deluxe double with a guaranteed view? Did you explain to the hotel that it was your honeymoon? I have always found the staff to be helpful and accomodating to special requests.

Definitely tell them it's your honeymoon -- it can't hurt!

We asked for a double with a view, got the same response as you did, and ended up with a fabulous room with a great view of the Pantheon, little balcony, and a nice bathroom with a tub (and this was in September). I hope you have the same outcome. Congratulations!

I had originally booked a double room in the del Senato, with a view of the Pantheon, in August, and was quoted the same rate as you. Then I switched the reservation to the beginning of September, and requested a superior double on a high floor with a view of the Pantheon. I was told that they had just received a cancellation, and that I could reserve this superior double at 244 euros if I acted quickly. They didn't say anything about not being able to guarantee a room. I did empahsize that this would be an anniversary trip, and that the view was very important to me.

I have, however, decided to stay at another hotel. Not that this probably matters to you...

Choose another hotel. The rooms are hot, crowded and the staff is unaccomodating. I had a horrible experience. No matter what room you are in, it is noisy from the street traffic which would not be all bad if you could close your windows and have air conidtioning working. The staff just did not seem to care.

They do have A/C. The hotel is wonderful, there is no street traffic because it faces Piazza della Rotunda which is pedestrian only zone. The staff is very thoughtful and the rooms are charming. We requested the room with a view of the Pantheon and got it. They did not mention anything about not being able to not guarantee it though.

We stayed there in September, just for one night, in a double room. We requested a Pantheon view and got the same response you did. When we arrived, our room did have a great view of the Pantheon, but it was really tiny- not even enough room to open the suitcases except on the bed. It was very nicely furnished and the view was great (no balcony), so we were perfectly happy with it. However, we were only there overnight and left early in the morning for our flight home. If we had stayed longer, I would definitely have upgraded to a higher category, just to get a little more space. All in all, we found the staff to be very nice and the quality of the hotel great.

I think all of their rooms except for the suites are the same size. They are small but very functional. We had a room with a tiny balcony on the top floor.

Stayed 3 nights at Senato June 1-4. We were very satisfied with the hotel. Did not have a view. Our room faced a wall but did not care. I think a view is highly overrated in Rome. We were only in the room to sleep. If you want to see a view go up to their great rooftop bar. That was fun. The rooms are smallish but that is standard in Europe. AC worked fine. Bathroom nice. Breakfast good. The staff is professional though not particularily warm except for Simona who was cute and nice (a good combo). The location of this hotel is perfect. I think you will like it. Have fun.
