Yesterday booked last minute flight to Scotland and looking for some quick help!
I am normally completely organized and well planned around travel planning, but now on a whim I am off to Scotland in 8 days. I would love some help.
How do I best get from Glasgow airport to Edinburgh? I will be spending 4 nights there and then would like to spend 3 nights somewhere in on location to tour and enjoy the outdoors - water is optional. Any suggestions on a good home base to slow travel from (I know it is only three days!) Specific recos on places to stay would also be appreciated, this is a birthday gift so we can live a little, if you know somewhere special! Would it be insane to think I could wander around and just find B&B's? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Susan |
Lucky for you and me, several people gave me very useful answers here:

I see you asked about where to stay in Edinburgh. Because this is the time of the festivals, accommodation is terribly scarce. What are you hoping to spend per night? You might want to stay outside Edinburgh and come in to visit. Then again, with the terrorist stuff, maybe some spaces have opened up. We booked and paid for our Edinburgh accommodation months ago.

Will - thanks for the info, more complicated than I thought, especially short on sleep.
I booked hotel this am, perhaps a cancellation, but certainly no deal. Anything saved on my fares have been lost. I am still trying desperately to figure out my remaining days. There are so many options. I am thinking of staying in/around Stirling and will post looking for accomodations. I will see you there perhaps! Cheers, Susan |
Apologies for double posting. Went to check the other thread and couldn't find it.
Big oooops! |
Just so you know, francetrip, if you click on your name, either at the top of any post or where it appears at the top of this screen, all the posts you have contributed to will appear in the left hand column.

If you want to know more about the festivals, see www.edinburgh-festivals.com, which will point you towards all of the individual festivals' websites. Hot tip - book *now* for 'Black Watch' via the Traverse website (www.traverse.co.uk - unlike the Fringe website it doesn't charge a booking fee & tickets are easier to collect) - it is selling out fast.
