Yes, I'm being lazy
I know I could probably spend time searching on here for answers, but I'd rather get a collective group of answers here from people if you all will help.
I arrive in Athens very early in the morning on Wednesday and don't leave until after 7 p.m. the same day for the island I'm headed for. What do you all think I should do for one day in Athens.
When answering keep in mind I will be returning in 10 days to spend 4 days just in Athens to see the MUST SEE sites then. My idea of a good time might be visiting some markets, seeing some water front, and getting a good meal while I'm there. Given that, can someone explain what Metro lines I could catch and where I might go to enjoy some of this?
Thanks for your help. If you ever come to Cairo, I'll explain the same info for you.
Also, are there any fab guides you would recommend for a day tour later on in my trip? Any foreigners working as guides? Any Greeks that are extra good, working as guides?

Why don't you take the funicular up to Lycabettus Hill and have your meal up there. You'll have a view of all of Athens and it will give you a mental map of the city for your return. There is a restaurant up there that everybody likes (it's a lovely setting). I forget the name (I just had coffee up there).
A nice day might be to go up for lunch and then wind your way down the hill and go window shopping through the tony Kolonaki district, checking out which fab cafe/bar you want for cocktails and supper.
Athens loves the lazy life.
The Metro is really easy to use.
Another idea, if you like supermodern art and trendy food, is to head over to the Gazi district, Athens answer to Tate Modern, go the museum, and have lunch in one of the 20 trendy restaurants over there.
But I prefer the Kolonaki. It's hardcore Athens, and it's hedonistic.

There's a hospital near the Evangelismos Metro Station on the Blue Line. I recommend you go there during your one day in Athens and take advantage of Greece's socialized medical coverage to get your ass fixed.

Debbie - seems that not everyone on the Europe board knows what an incredible asset you are to folks wanting info/help with Egypt.
Again - with I could offer assistance - but I do appreciate all that you do to help others!

Yes - Zeppole was WAY helpful and I've copied off his/her answer and will probably follow that advise and it is greatly appreciated. Anytime I can help with an Egypt question, let me know and you'll get service.
Grcxx3 - Thanks for your comment, and to all the pooops on this board!
